Hero Hiralal is the simple love story of a Hyderabadi autorickshaw driver and an aspiring Bollywood actress. Hero Hiralal fills in as a tourist guide for Roopa (Deepa Sahi) after she arrives in the Char Minar city for a shooting schedule. Hiralal (Naseeruddin Shah) is an interesting character and Roopa begins to like spending time with him. However, little does she realise that he is falling in love with her. When the shooting schedule is over, Roopa returns to Bombay. Hiralal follows her to the city and proposes marriage to her. Circumstances force Roopa to reject him. Heartbroken, Hiralal decides to end his life. An interesting twist in the story turns his suicide attempt in the biggest event in the city. There is tremendous media hype as the date of Hiralal's intended suicide attempt draws near. Will Hero Hiralal die in the attempt? Or will Roopa accept his proposal just in time? Or is there something totally different in store for the two?
